Requirements to Become an MBB Major

The Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (694) major is open to students beyond their first year who have received grades of C or better in courses taken toward the major or by special permission of the undergraduate director. Students should have completed or received Advanced Placement (AP) credit for General Biology (119:115/116/117), General Chemistry (160:161/162 or 163/164), Calculus (640:135 or 151).  A grade of C or better in courses credited toward the major is required for graduation.

Prospective MBB majors can declare for MBB anytime on the Rutgers MyMajor website but the department prefers you declare when you are ready to take the first semester of Organic Chemistry and/or Physics.  

Procedure to Declare MBB Major

To declare the MBB major please go to the Rutgers MyMajor site.  After declaring, you must then make an appointment to meet with the Dept. He will review your transcript and discuss the courses required for the major and your goals after you graduate. 

MBB majors are usually SAS students and should sign up for the "694" major instead of 115. Biochemistry (115) majors follow the Biochemistry curriculum of the Department of the Biochemistry and Microbiology at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.
